Rubys Reward gained a deserved first success over hurdles at Fontwell on Friday in a Class 5 handicap hurdle over three and a quarter miles in the colours of the Brambles partnership.
As her dam Cresswell Ruby won five times over a trip we were hopeful of a decent performance now that she was going up in distance.
Rubys Reward showed promise in two bumpers last season and ran very well when second on her handicap debut over two miles at Plumpton on February 14.
I probably ran her quicker than ideal 16 days later at Wincanton where she finished fourth.
The mare then enjoyed a little break and was fresher going to Fontwell where she relaxed in the rear under a patient ride from Rex Dingle before easing into contention and winning tidily by five and a half lengths from Age of Wisdom.
All being well she will be out again in three or four weeks in a similar handicap over a trip.
