The ready victory of Dance and Glance in the £40,000 Pertemps Challenger two mile hurdle series Final at Haydock on Saturday took our score for the season to forty-eight which matches our best tally set last April.
The difference this time is that our horses have earned almost £867,000 in prize money which is well in advance of our previous record.
Dance and Glance has proved to be a brilliant campaigner for his owners Mere Racing, taking them on a great journey, giving them no end of fun and earning plenty of prize money along the way.
I’d like to pay tribute to his regular jockey Rex Dingle who has put a lot of work at home getting him to settle but is out of action for several months after breaking his ankle and leg at Taunton recently.
Dance and Glance was so keen in his early days we decided to let him bowl along in front. That worked at first when he was twice successful at the start of his career but eventually we had to press reset and started dropping him out in his races.
Midway through this season he came of age and we can now ride him as we want. He won at Ascot before Christmas, was fifth at Newbury in the hugely valuable William Hill hurdle and has now landed another decent pot.
Dance and Glance jumps, travels and stays well and will be going chasing before long.
First though I might look at the Swinton Hurdle for him back at Haydock.
