A DREAM RUN AT FONTWELL . . . . . . . . . . . .

Dreaming Blue finally rewarded the patience of his owner Roger Devlin with a pleasing first success in a £10,000 novice hurdle at Fontwell on Sunday ridden by Rex Dingle.

While it was not the strongest race you will ever see I felt he had a bit to prove beforehand but he was more than up to the challenge as he stayed on stoutly to draw clear from Ballycamus  in the closing stages.

He jumped soundly, travelled sweetly and won in a manner that offered plenty of hope that there could be more to come as he gains experience.

Dreaming Blue was on the sidelines for a while with a suspensory injury he sustained in a hind leg shortly after an underwhelming hurdles debut for us in December 2020.

More recently we tried without success to win a little race with him on the all-weather but he will be now concentrating on hurdles though I wouldn’t rule out another shot on the flat on turf over a trip.

Although he is by Showcasing, who gets plenty of speedy types, Dreaming Blue shapes like an out and out stayer.

It’s fair to say he took a while to get the hang of jumping in his early schooling sessions. But he was so much better recently and gave me loads of confidence that he was safe and enjoying himself.

I imagine I’ll be looking for a similar novice hurdle for him in a month’s time.
