Ucanaver made a pleasing debut over hurdles with a fluent success in the GBB Mares’ Novice race at Worcester on Wednesday which was kindly sponsored by the friends and family of Richard Wright.
Rex Dingle rode her to sit handily behind the leader, she challenged three out, soon led and came clear on the flat to beat the second favourite Malaita by seven and a half lengths.
We have always had faith in Ucanaver who clearly has an engine – I bought her back in February 2020 after she had come second at Huntingdon to our well thought of Coquelicot. She then won for us impressively by twenty lengths at Fontwell. I ran her a bit quickly at Cheltenham where she was keener than ideal. But after a nice break she put up a respectable effort finishing in midfield in a Listed bumper at Sandown on deep ground.
As Ucanaver has always schooled well over hurdles at home I was hopeful of a big show from her at Worcester and she delivered in style for her owners the Ifuwonner partnership.
I will see how she comes out of the race before making any firm plans. But I’d like to think she can progress nicely over the season.
