SOME SPRING IN THE AIR . . . . . . .

SOMESPRING SPECIAL lived up to her name with a stylish first success in a Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at Fontwell on Monday in the colours of the Yeo Racing Partnership.

An attractive five year old by WESTERNER out of a mare who won three times, she has progressed steadily this season and made all the running under top weight to win with the minimum of fuss by five and a half lengths from Mistral Nell.

Running in her first handicap, Somespring Special, was given a good ride by Ben Godfrey who has already partnered with her in two races this year and is excellent value for his 3lbs claim.

She is a hardy mare with a good attitude and should have a decent future over fences, maybe as soon as the autumn.

Somespring Special didn’t have a hard race at Fontwell and is entered at Wincanton on Wednesday but I’ll see how she is in the morning before making a decision.
