ON A CREST OF AYR . . . . . . . . .

Crest of Fortune justified the long journey north to Scotland with Charles and Will. A thoroughly pleasing success under a penalty in the opening novice hurdle at Ayr on Saturday ridden by Ben Godfrey in the colours of Crest Racing VI.

He gave us our 42nd winner of what is shaping up to be our best season with the prize money won by our horses now in excess of £550,000.

Crest of Fortune has been running well all winter and it was good to see him get his head in front again after a sequence of second places.

I wanted to give him a fifth run ahead of a possible tilt at a valuable handicap at Aintree where he will also get an entry in the three mile Grade 1 novice hurdle.

The race at Ayr offered a nice opportunity for Crest of Fortune on soft ground that was in his favour and after leading some way from home he readily saw off the challenge of the odds-on favourite Jupiter Des Mottes by five lengths.

I’d like to think that in time he has the talent and engine to develop into a useful three mile chaser.

Closer to home Easy Love did well to gain some black type by finishing third in the £30,000 Listed mares’ bumper at Sandown.
