Mister Allegro defied his odds of 40-1 with a pleasing success on his debut over hurdles at Ludlow on Wednesday.
His schooling has been fluent in recent weeks and it showed as he jumped soundly before taking up the running at the final flight and winning with something to spare.
Mister Allegro clearly enjoyed the quick ground at Ludlow, showed a willing attitude in the closing stages and was given a positive ride by Rex Dingle.
Hurdling was always going to be on the cards after he was sent to us early in the summer by Steve Browning. He ran well on his first start for us on the flat at Chepstow in June before struggling in heavy conditions at Windsor.
He has the scope to progress and the manner of his victory at Ludlow suggests he just had an off day last time at Bath.
Steve is planning to send Mister Allegro to the Horses in Training sale at Newmarket at the end of this month.
First, though, we have the option of running him under a penalty in another juvenile hurdle, possibly at Wincanton, while the ground is in his favour.
