BLACKJACK MAGIC bounced back to form with a fluent victory under top weight off a mark of 128 in a £12,000 Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter on Saturday.
A fortnight ago in a competitive race over the same course he was on the back foot after a mistake and was eventually pulled up by Aidan Coleman.
This time he was able to dominate from the front with the help of a positive ride by Rex Dingle and kept pulling out more when challenged by Real Stone in the closing stages.
Blackjack Magic’s jumping has been assured since he started over fences, apart from that rare lapse last time, he has a good cruising speed and he handles deep ground very well.
So hopefully he should have plenty of options next season. The ground can dry up quickly at this time of year but I’ll keep him ticking over for the moment in case another suitable opportunity presents itself.
