FORWARD PLAN gained his deserved first success with a fluent victory in the long distance Chichester Foodbank Handicap Hurdle at Fontwell on Friday in the colours of The Steeplechasers syndicate.
I was thinking of switching him straight to fences this season but felt there was unfinished business over hurdles and found an ideal race for him at Fontwell.
We decided to hold him up, relax off the pace and pop away before making his move in the closing stages.
Ben Godfrey carried out his instructions to perfection on Forward Plan who won with something to spare and stays well without being a slogger. He will go chasing next.
He won an Irish Point-to-Point in May 2021, is heading in the right direction, jumps well and is still a young horse with his best years to come.
