HATS OFF TO A WINNING START OF A NEW MONTH . . . . . .

HATOS provided our first success of February with a decisive victory ridden by Richie McLernon in a two mile Handicap Chase at Ffos Las on Thursday.

But our hopes of a quick double at the West Wales track were foiled when Smart Casual and Richie were brought down three flights from home in the next race, a handicap hurdle.

It was good to seem Hatos atone for his fall in a similar race a year ago over a bit further when he was travelling well. He returned to Ffos Las on a 12lbs lower mark and relished the testing conditions as he stretched clear to beat Templier by five lengths.

He just never seemed to be right last season and it’s possible that a breathing op over the summer helped him turn the corner.

He absolutely floats through heavy ground, jumps very well and now that he has got his head in front again I’m hopeful that he can start to make up for lost time for the Hats Off To Hatos syndicate.
