FORTUNA STAYS ON FOR HER FIRST VICTORY . . . . .

It was good to see FORTUNA LIGNA gain an overdue first success in the Dunraven Windows Mares’ Maiden Hurdle at Chepstow on Friday ridden by Harry Cobden who spent time with us as an inexperienced young amateur.

Watching on a small screen from Punchestown I thought Harry gave her a typically positive ride from the front before they saw off the strong challenge of All The Glory on the flat.

I was confident about Fortuna Ligna winning a bumper for us. It didn’t quite happen for her though she did finish an excellent third in a classy Listed bumper at Cheltenham late last year.

More recently she again ran well when staying on strongly to be fourth in a valuable Grade 2 mares handicap hurdle at Newbury in March.

She was certainly overdue a win and showed a determined attitude to seal the victory at Chepstow which was our 41st success of the season.

Fortuna Ligna is a mare I’ve always liked, should continue to give her owners plenty of fun and will be well suited by stepping up to three miles on softer ground next season. She will also probably jump a fence one day.
