BAMENT CHARMS HIS WAY THROUGH THE STORM . . . . . . . . . .

Saturday ultimately proved a rewarding day despite receiving a red alert text warning me not to leave the house because of Storm Darragh.

Top marks to our staff for getting all our horses ridden despite the worst of the weather.

At first I couldn’t believe I was heading to Sandown, so to end up with a winner with our only runner of the day was quite a bonus.

My original plan was to send GOOD LOOK CHARM to Wincanton last month in a bid to land the Richard Barber Memorial Hurdle on her seasonal debut for the second year running.

But the she missed that race because the ground was a bit quicker than ideal and then we had a little hold up with her when she knocked a joint.

Once the rain came to ease the going the mares’ handicap at Sandown looked ideal for Good Look Charm and she won well with our conditional Chad Bament claiming a handy 10lbs.

Chad rode a sensible race sitting just behind the pace before letting his mount stride into the lead two out.

They were firmly in charge from that point and won the £9157 first prize tidily by three and a quarter lengths for the Isle of Blue and White Partnership.

Now that Good Luck Charm is back on track I will probably look for a more valuable mares race for her ridden again by Chad.
