Ferret Jeeter showed a lovely attitude from the front as he saw off all challengers in a Class 5 handicap hurdle over three miles at Ffos Las on Thursday evening in the colours of Richard Matthews.
He is certainly making up for lost time after being off the course for eighteen months with a tendon strain.
Ferret Jeeter’s comeback run at Fontwell in April ended abruptly when the race was voided at halfway. He then surprised us a bit by winning tidily at the same track a fortnight later when he stretched well clear in the closing stages.
But he took a heavy fall at Fontwell late in May which put our promising conditional Chad Bament on the side-lines with two damaged vertebrae in his back.
Ben Godfrey took over at Ffos Las and gave Ferret Jeeter a positive ride from flag fall. While the horse is still a bit clumsy at his hurdles and learning on the job, he is progressing nicely and kept pulling out more after the final flight to provide out seventh success of the season.
He has done his job now with two wins from four starts over the past ten weeks so we will give him a pat and put him away until November when we will target staying handicap hurdles with him.
