SCOTTISH RAID PAYS OFF . . . . . . . . .

BREAKING COVER and our talented conditional jockey Chad Bament completed an impressive summer treble with a pleasing victory in the valuable feature two mile Class two Chase at Kelso on Sunday.

This race, with a first prize of almost £21,000, had been the plan since their previous success together at Stratford twenty-three days earlier.

With a sound pace from the start Breaking Cover settled nicely in the rear, then edged closer as the field turned for home before moving into contention at the final fence.

He then quickened up to lead well inside the last furlong and held on well in a tight finish. It was a lovely performance by an improving horse who was winning his sixth chase off a career high mark of 139.

Breaking Cover is a useful performer at this time of year and was providing me with my first win at Kelso from two runners.

We will try and box clever with him and look for another suitable opportunity at the end of the month if the ground remains in his favour.

We’ve now had twelve winners this season at a strike rate of 23% which puts us nicely into the current list of top ten trainers.

We are always looking at ways to improve how we do things at Potwell and it’s encouraging to see that our horses have earned in excess of £3 million for their owners over the last five seasons.
