GORE POINT extended his winning sequence over fences to four with a thoroughly professional victory in a £15,000 handicap at Newton Abbot on Saturday in the colours of his owner breeder Mark Pendarves.
To top it off, Gore Point set a new course record in the process – another feather in the cap of a horse who continues to go from strength to strength.
He was racing off a mark of 96 when successful at Stratford at the end of June and won off a career high mark of 117 on this latest start with his ears pricked.
Gore Point can expect another rise after readily beating the odds-on favourite Ice Jet by five lengths but he is still improving and has earned a step up in Class next time
He is a very fit, busy type, doesn’t need a lot of work and is a lovely horse to have in the yard.
He has won seven times for us now, and if he keeps progressing and and the ground is still quick in October we might have a look at a novice Chase for him at Cheltenham or even the Rising Stars Chase at Wincanton.
Gore Point’s younger half brother Shrimp Shady, aged four, is also having a fine season on the flat in Mark’s colours, having won the Chester Plate in May and at Newbury in July before finishing a close second in a Shergar Cup race at Ascot early this month.
