A SUCCESSFUL SPRING DAY . . . . . . . . .

Our latest double on Thursday took our score for the season to 41 which is one short of our best total achieved last year.

Saladins Son set the ball rolling with a decisive victory in a Class 3 handicap Chase over three miles and a furlong at Wincanton in the colours of Richard and Carol Cheshire.

He has won three of his four starts since joining us in the autumn, is progressing nicely and I’d like to think there is still more to come.

Given a sound ride by Ben Godfrey he was just gaining the upper hand when his only challenger Sheldon fell at the third last fence.

That left Saladins Son (Pictured below) to come home unchallenged to collect the first prize of £14,242.

Fountains Blenhein then completed another rewarding day for our team with a pleasing success from the front in the bumper at Fontwell in the silks of the Fountains partnership (pictured above).

He hadn’t shown much before running all right in a Point-to-Point bumper for my sister Teresa, though when she sent him to us he initially struggled to get up our gallop.

But he has improved plenty since then, has really stepped forward over the last month and won very well at Fontwell with Sam Twiston-Davies dictating the pace from the start.

I’d say he is a 120 horse already and wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up a fair bit better than that.

He is a full-brother to Fountains Windfall who was a star novice chaser for us until his untimely death on the eve of the 2017 Cheltenham Festival.
