We enjoyed a long-distance double on Sunday with CREST OF FORTUNE making a stylish winning debut over hurdles at Ffos Las before BROOKIE gained his first success over fences at Sandown.
Crest of Fortune is a well-bred, attractive individual who won his bumper at Wincanton in December before finishing third in the £100,000 Goffs sales bumper at Newbury in March.
He was a bit gassy on Sunday, both in the paddock and in the race, a competitive maiden hurdle. But Rex Dingle managed to get him to relax before bringing him through with an impressive late run that quickly took them clear of their rivals after jumping the final flight.
You could say Crest of Fortune did a lot of things wrong yet still won nicely in the colours of Crest Racing VI. He is still only four, has run only three times and it looks like he has a real engine.
So there are plenty of positives and we have lots to look forward to with him. He should be a bit less full of himself with that run under his belt and we will work our way with him towards Graded events later in the season.
Brookie is a nice solid horse who was successful twice over hurdles last season after joining us from Ireland.
His jumping was sound as he landed the £10,406 Boodles Novice Limited Handicap Chase at Sandown in the hands of Sam Twiston-Davies.
He likes good ground, ticked a few boxes on Sunday and could develop into a handy two mile chaser in the months ahead.
Brookie is a half-brother to the top class Grade 1 winning chaser Captain Guinness and had run a couple of times over fences in Ireland before arriving at Potwell.
Naturally we are hoping he can follow in his brother’s footsteps and Sunday’s victory was certainly an encouraging start.
A busy weekend with 11 runners, across 3 racecourses has now put us over £200k prize money already this season. A huge thank you to our team both at home and on the track – weekends like this are only possible with their hard work!
