WE’VE SAID IT BEFORE, AND WE’LL SAY IT AGAIN, SHE’S ONE TOUGH COOKIE . . . . . . . . . .

COQUELICOT won her ninth race for us at the age of eight with a fluent success from the front in a Class 4 two mile 0-80 handicap on the flat at Nottingham on Wednesday ridden brilliantly by Sean Kirrane.

She has been a marvellous mare for her syndicate of owners put together by Matt Bisogno, a great supporter who sponsors our yard through his company Geegeez.co.uk.

Coquelicot has been with us since she was a yearling and has now won twice on the flat, four times over hurdles and also three bumpers including two Listed races at Kempton.

It’s a fabulous CV and we will try to make the most of things in the months ahead as this could just be her last season in training.

Coquelicot was given a sound ride at Nottingham by Sean Kirrane who set out to make the running on her favoured soft ground and increased the tempo three furlongs before they sailed home by three-quarters of a length without being headed.

She is a hardy mare, straight-forward to train, has a good cruising speed, stays well and a lovely attitude.

The run at Nottingham was a prep for her next target, the £25,000 Listed mares’ hurdle at Kempton over two miles, five furlongs on November 25 which she won last year.

We will all miss her badly when she finally retires.
