It was brilliant to see Sam Brown land another big race on Sunday at Ascot with the help of a jockey who is only a few years older than him.
The decision to snap up 18 year old Freddie Ginger to partner our 12 year stable stalwart paid off as they came out on top in a tremendous duel with Two For Gold in the Veterans Chase.
Freddie’s 5 lbs claim proved crucial in a tight finish between the pair.
Top marks to Johnny Burke who has done so well on Sam Brown this season and gave Freddie some useful background on him.
The old horse and his young jockey were soon upsides in front, jumping soundly and enjoying themselves before winging the last on the way to a victory that meant so much to owner breeder Tim Frost and his family.
Freddie did a fabulous job to get such a great tune out of his experienced mount and it was a triumph that earned Sam Brown automatic qualification for the valuable Veterans Chase final at Sandown next January.
Sunday’s win took the prize money won by our horses this season to over £650,000 and hopefully there is more to come in the final weeks of the season.
We have plenty to run next week, more bullets to fire before taking a team of five or six on our annual trip to Punchestown.
A great race to watch. Sam ‘s jump at the last won him a well deserved victory! Heartwarming !
It was brilliant to see Sam enjoying himself so much. He was obviously relishing the conditions- and the masterful ride from his young rider.
