I was thrilled to see Wagner win well at Worcester on Thursday. His win came six days after a highly encouraging return to action at the same course after surgery to help his breathing.
We have twice fired his palate in the past but this time we decided to go for the full hobday operation which also involved removing some fatty folds.
It looks like the procedure has worked as he ran a big race in finishing second to Rock on Rocco last week, galloping right to the line that day and then went one better on Thursday with a resolute success from the front.
As Wagner was due to go up 2lbs on Saturday it made sense to run him again quickly under top weight in a lower grade and the decision paid off with the help of a positive ride by Rex Dingle.
It fair to say we got lucky with the conditions at Worcester where it was good to soft on May 21 and still lovely good ground on Thursday.
Wagner has now won over hurdles and fences and as he is still only six hopefully there will be more to come from him in the colours of the Potwell Racing Syndicate I.
I had a busy time on Thursday entertaining more than twenty owners at the yard while also managing to buy two nice young prospects at the Tattersalls Cheltenham sale held at Newmarket.
FORWARD PLAN , winner of a point to point in Ireland, was filling an order and I will soon be advertising shares in the four year old HATOS, ( Diamond Boy X Santalisa) a strong finishing runner up for Colin Bowe on his debut this month in an Irish point to point.
