It was good to see KONIGIN ISABELLA gain an overdue first success in a competitive Class 5 novice handicap hurdle over two and a quarter miles at Newton Abbot on Tuesday in the colours of Geegeeez.co.uk.
She took a long time to get over a heavy fall at Wincanton in April, 2023 and didn’t run again for almost a year.
But she showed signs of a revival when fourth behind a stable companion at Stratford early this month and overcame trouble in running to win by a neck from No More Bolero.
Konigin Isabella saved energy and had a lovely position for most of the race but then found herself behind a wall of horses going to two out.
Switched adroitly to the stands side by Sam Twiston-Davies she quickened up smartly once she saw daylight and finished with a flourish to record our ninth victory of the season.
Top marks to Newton Abbot for putting up over £10,000 in prize money for a O-95 handicap hurdle. They deserve plenty of support.
