GENTLEMEN PREFER WINNERS . . . . .

Marilyn Monroe completed the full set over jumps with her success in a Mares’ Novice Handicap Chase at Wincanton on Thursday in the colours of the Some Like It Hot partnership.
She has now won a point-to-point, bumper, hurdle race and steeplechase and as a half sister to Regal Encore and The Organist she clearly has considerable appeal as a broodmare.
She could run again next month at Hereford, ground permitting, before being sold in the spring.
The original plan was for Marilyn Monroe to go for a similar mares novice handicap Chase at Leicester last week, but that was foiled when the meeting was changed into a card without any chases. So it was a relief when the BHA re-scheduled that same race at Wincanton because Marilyn Monroe is definitely better going right-handed and is one of only a handful of mine that handles quicker ground.
She appeared to have things in safe keeping going to the final fence until she took Rex Dingle by surprise when she jinked left across her nearest challenger My Lady Grey.
But she was back in control on the flat before keeping the race at the subsequent stewards inquiry.
The continuing dry spell is making it quite difficult to plan ahead. I was hoping to run Sam Brown in the Graduation Chase at Haydock on Saturday but the ground there is not soft enough for him.
However Sully d’Oc AA does run on Saturday in a valuable two mile Chase at Ascot for which seven horses have been declared.
