FANFARON DINO delivered our sixth winner of the month with a late flourish that took him into the lead a few yards from the line in the colours of JP McManus.
He was given a determined ride by Richie McLernon who had him handily placed on the inner behind the leaders before playing his cards late with the final flight dolled off.
Fanfaron Dino has been a bit fragile to train and is still quite lightly raced at the age of eight. But I’m hoping that now that he has strengthened up we can run him a bit more this summer.
We have been on the back foot with him for the last nine months and decided to give him a nice break after his second run last season when he struggled in deep ground at Exeter in January.
He then performed better on his return earlier this month at Ffos Las despite being unsuited by the pedestrian pace of the race.
It was good to see him back up that run with a victory at Fontwell in this Handicap Hurdle where he turned for home in third place and kept on resolutely to catch and pass the favourite Tara Iti in the last few strides.
Now that Fanfaron Dino seems to handle better ground we might be able to find more options for him.
