DOUBLE GLORY ON A SUPER SUNDAY . . . . . . . .
Another rewarding day on Sunday took our score for the season to 23 at a very pleasing strike rate of 24%.
CRACKERJACQUE had already given us a flying start to the afternoon with a runaway success on his debut over hurdles at Plumpton.
Three quarters of an hour later it was lovely to see two of our nicer chasing prospects come to the last fence at Cheltenham with the £20,000 limited handicap Chase between them.
Both jumped it well. But Jordans Cross came down as he slipped on ground cut up after two days of racing leaving KDEUX SAINT FRAY to pull clear for a decisive victory in the colours of Les Bleus Fonces.
It was tough on Jordans Cross and Ben Godfrey but happily both were quickly on their feet. Ironically Kdeux Saint Fray had an unlucky fall on his previous visit to the track.
This time he put in a nice, solid round of jumping before keeping on strongly on the flat.
I’m pretty sure our pair would have finished first and second and the encouraging thing is that Kdeux Saint Fray had a nice confidence booster in winning comfortably while Jordans Cross was unscathed and will be a good horse going forward.
At Fontwell Crackerjacque put on a dominant display from the front in a maiden hurdle before stretching clear in the closing stages in the hands of Rex Dingle.
We have taken our time with him and given him no end of schooling including over poles and fences in our indoor school.
Apart from one error his jumping improved as he warmed to the task and I’d say he won despite the trip and ground. He is a galloper who impressed when winning his £16,000 bumper in the mud at Sandown last January and will come into his own when he tackles two and a half miles in testing conditions.
