Public Enemy gained his second success since joining us with a fluent victory under a penalty in the colours of Chris Baldwin in the opening novice hurdle at Stratford on Saturday.
He’d shown some promise on the flat in France late last year before he was bought by Highflyer’s Tessa Greatrex. He has progressed nicely in the last few months and it was good to see him back on track after a slight blip last time at Plumpton.
Public Enemy was always travelling well behind the leader, Old Bridge on Saturday, moved ahead before two out, soon saw off the challenge of the favourite Renoir and won comfortably by two lengths.
It was a nice performance given that he is lightly raced and has only run four times over hurdles. He will now enjoy a summer holiday out to grass before going for two mile handicap hurdles in the autumn.
I’d like to think Chris has a useful horse to look forward to when he returns into training.
