A BUSY SATURDAY, REWARDED WITH AN ACROSS THE CARD DOUBLE . . . . . . . .

A high-profile double shown on ITV on Saturday took our score for the season to 39.

Our ageless marvel SAM BROWN was the first to strike in the opening veterans handicap Chase at Newbury with the help of another good ride by our ten pound claiming conditional Chad Bament.

BROOKIE then sealed a marvellous afternoon for the team with a pleasing success ridden by Ben Godfrey in the silks of Abigail Rugg in a competitive two mile chase at Doncaster.

With Credo finishing fourth behind Sam Brown and Jasmin de Grugy also in the frame at Newbury our horses have now earned over £530,000 for their owners this season.

Sam Brown (pictured below with Izzie) continues to hold back the years at the age of thirteen. He has been a brilliant horse for his late owner breeder Tim Frost and his family and won handsomely after taking up the lead early in the straight.

He is quite lightly raced for his age given that he was out of action for a couple of years after a promising start over hurdles. All being well I’d say he will return to Aintree next month for the race he won in 2022 and also finished second in last year.

Looking further ahead he is now qualified for the Veterans Chase Final next winter.

Conditions at Doncaster were ideal for Brookie (pictured above with Jamshaid) who is a youngster in comparison at the age of eight and has progressed nicely since joining us from Ireland at the start of last season.

Left in front at the eighth fence he kept on strongly to beat Homme Public comfortably.

He’s a half-brother to the Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Captain Guinness, has a fair bit of pace himself, and could head to Aintree for the Red Rum Handicap at the Grand National meeting.
