Breaking Cover won his second decent prize in nine days with a fluent success in a Class 3 two mile chase at Stratford on Saturday evening.
Raised 6lbs for his previous victory at Newton Abbot on August 27 he again travelled comfortably behind the leaders before moving to the front approaching the last fence and easing clear without being hard pressed by the runner up Gower Prince.
He was well ridden in both races by our talented conditional jockey Chad Bament who is good value for his 5lbs claim, already has plenty of experience over fences and is strong in a finish.
Breaking Cover is proving to be a fine money spinner for his trio of owners Gill Langford, Phillip Saunders and Phillip Cartwright having won seven races and almost £70,000 since the start of last summer.
He has progressed steadily, relishes ground conditions at this time of year and has earned a crack at a bigger pot, either in a £100,000 handicap Chase at Cheltenham or maybe the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter.
Our small team of summer jumpers have now won nine races and earned £103,000 for their owners so far this season and I’m thinking it might pay to keep them ticking over until the weather breaks.
