BREAKING NEWS! COVERS BACK . . . . . .

It was good to see Breaking Cover bouncing back to form with a decisive victory in a two mile £25,000 Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot on Thursday evening.

He was given a patient ride by our 5lbs claiming conditional Chad Bament who produced him to lead two fences from home on the way to beating Obsessedwithyou by eleven lengths.

Our other contender Gore Point started favourite in search of a six timer but ran below par. He has been busy this summer but was so fresh at home without a mark on him after his latest success five days earlier that it made sense to turn him out again in such a valuable race at a track and over a trip that plays to his strengths.

But he failed to put his best foot forward and it was Breaking Cover who deservedly took the plaudits with a fine performance off a mark of 129 at course where he has won three times before.

He finished a close second in the Rising Stars at Wincanton last season, is good on his day and I loved the way he pulled clear in the closing stages.

We will give Gore Point a break now and Breaking Cover is unlikely to be out again too soon either.

But with all three of our runners in the money at Newton Abbot it’s encouraging that our horses have already earned just short of £100,00 this season.
