Public Enemy fulfilled the promise of his debut for us with a fluent success in a two mile maiden hurdle at Plumpton on Sunday.
It came hot on the heels of a fruitful three days for our team at Aintree where Brookie and Crest of Fortune were both placed in Grade 1 company.
Public Enemy ran very well on his first start over hurdles when third at Taunton late in February and Rex Dingle sensibly made full use of that experience by sending him to the front from the start at Plumpton.
He jumped really well, if a shade to the right at times, was always in command and stretched clear to win decisively.
It was a really nice performance by our horse who is lightly raced, showed a pleasing attitude and seemed to bounce off the ground.
Public Enemy has potential and will remain a novice until November. He should stay further than two miles, handles softer conditions and has loads of options in the months ahead.
He was the first winner we have trained for Chris Baldwin and was bought by Highflyer’s Tessa Greatrex as a replacement for Silver Shade.
