JASMIN DE GRUGY achieved the notable feat of winning his fifth race on the bounce with a fluent victory in a Class 4 handicap Chase at Newbury on Wednesday in the colours of JP McManus.
The sequence began in a handicap hurdle at Ffos Las on May 7 last year off a mark of 93 and by the end of that month he had rattled up a hat-trick.
Jasmin de Grugy was always going to be a chaser, won nicely at Southwell late in November on his return to action and completed the five-timer without fuss off a mark of 119 on his first try at a trip of just shy of three miles.
He has been very well ridden in all his victories by Richie McLernon who recently gained his landmark 200th win for JP in the green and gold.
Jasmin de Grugy is a gorgeous individual with a lovely way about him. We hoped he would improve over fences and further and I was really pleased with the way he jumped and travelled at Newbury before taking command in the closing stages.
He could well return to Newbury on March 1 for a £30,000 novice handicap Chase for horses rated between 0-130.
