VICTORY FOR SALADINS SON . . . . . .

Saladins Son was off the mark on his first start for us with a pleasing victory in a three runner long distance maiden hurdle at Huntington on Saturday in the colours of Richard and Carol Cheshire.

He ran consistently last season without quite getting his head in front so it made sense for Ben Godfrey to make use of his experience by setting out to make all the running and they were never headed.

Saladins Son has been shaping nicely at home since joining us in July and has schooled well over fences.

Although he is a chaser in the making I felt it was worth giving him one more try over hurdles once I spotted this race in the calendar.

He already has a handicap mark of 113, which looks workable, and would prefer a bit more juice in the ground than he found at Huntingdon.

So next time he runs it is likely to be in a novice handicap Chase over two and a half miles.
