It was good to see two of our horses dominate the Get Your RacingTV Free Trail Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Chase at Warwick on Wednesday.
SWINCOMBE FLEAT won decisively in the end but for much of the race LILY THE PINK matched strides with her as they jumped soundly ahead of Walk In Clover who never got into contention.
Swincombe Fleat, ridden by Aidan Coleman, edged ahead two out in the colours of the Yeo Racing Partnership and kept on to beat Lily the Pink under Rex Dingle, who ran well on her first start in 608 days for the Wessex Racing Club.
There was a welcome extra reward for the winner’s connections as it was a GBB bonus race.
Swincombe Fleat’s dam was a top notch race mare and she, too, is making quite a name for herself having already been successful in a bumper, a novice hurdle and now over fences.
I was delighted with both horses in a race that was almost like a schooling session. I will try to keep Swincombe Fleat fresh and look for a similar race for her and maybe up her in trip to three miles.
Lily The Pink will come on plenty for her first run over fences after a long break and should be winning over fences sooner rather than later.
