BREAKING COVER extended his summer of excellence with another pleasing success in a class 3 Limited Novice Handicap Chase at Worcester on Monday in the colours of Phil Cartwright, Gill Langford and Philip Saunders.
After various physical niggles and setbacks kept him off the track for over a year it is lovely to see him on a roll with four wins from his last five starts which have yielded £25,000 in prize money.
It’s a joy that Breaking Cover is now coming out of his races well and staying sound. Two of his victories have come over hurdles followed by two more over fences
He was ridden with fine timing on Monday by Sam Twiston-Davies who was happy to drop anchor half a dozen lengths behind the free running mare Seeyouinmydreams before making ground steadily, jumping upsides her at the final fence and readily holding the late challenge of Springs A Girl.
Breaking Cover pricked his ears half way up the run-in thinking he had done enough.
He could be out again in a fortnight’s time at Newton Abbot in a £15,000 Novice Handicap Chase.
But if he needs a bit more time we might wait for other options early in October.
