DOYANNIE has been a bit of a slow burner but she finally came good with a fluent victory over fences at Plumpton on Monday ridden by Rex Dingle.
Ninety minutes later we came tantalisingly close to completing a double when Fortuna Ligna was beaten a short head by Last of a Legend after a prolonged duel in a mares handicap hurdle.
Doyannie is a big, strong mare who showed plenty with Jack Barber before joining us this season. She hasn’t been the easiest to train but is more relaxed now and won the Elementally Human High Stakes Handicap Chase over two miles with authority.
Owned by Jack’s father Jeremy in partnership with two friends she was always handy, jumped well, led two out and readily drew clear.
Doyannie’s jumping has definitely improved and while she has been a bit of a challenge in the past she is now much more straight-forward.
She is declared at Wincanton on Wednesday but I’d say she is unlikely to turn out again quickly as she pulled a shoe off and nearly lost another one. We will hope to run her again in three weeks time in a mares’ chase over two miles.
