JASMIN DE GRUGY doubled his score for the season with a clear cut success in a Class 5 handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter on Saturday evening ridden by Richie McLernon in the colours of JP McManus.
A ready winner at Ffos Las eleven days earlier he had more on his plate this time after being raised 11lbs by the handicapper but was well in command at the line after the main danger Just Chasing May fell at the final flight.
Jasmin de Grugy looked to be getting on top at the time and is progressing nicely having gone up 20 lbs since he was narrowly beaten in a tight finish at Wincanton at the end of March.
A good sized, strong type he has always looked more of a chaser and I’m unsure how much longer he will remain over hurdles.
I’ll be discussing future plans with JP’s racing manager Frank Berry. We have the option of sending him on holiday soon or keeping him in training for another month or so in case another suitable handicap hurdle comes up if the ground is still on the easy side.
