We enjoyed a fine double at Chepstow on Thursday with both FIRESTREAM and CREDO winning with plenty to spare.
First to strike was Firestream ridden by Aidan Coleman in the Spectra Group Maiden Hurdle over just shy of two and a half miles. He did quite a lot of schooling in the spring before we turned him away but I’d didn’t expect him to win in quite such a grand manner on his debut over hurdles.
He was in the lead from the start, was still full of running as they turned for home and galloped on relentlessly to record a 21 length victory.
I am really excited about Firestream, a horse I’ve always liked. He shows a bit of class, jumped great and clearly has a bright future.
He was quite hard on himself at Chepstow so I will not be running him again quickly. All being well his next race will be the Challow Hurdle at Newbury on New Year’s Eve, which is also the target of Kilbeg King.
Credo then completed a fine afternoon for the team with a fluent success under top sight of twelve stone in The Angela Nettlefold Memorial Mares’ Handicap Chase in the colours of the Potwell Racing Syndicate II.
She is only 15 hands 3 but jumped like a natural and after being briefly outpaced down the back straight came sailing through on the inside to register a decisive triumph ridden by Rex Dingle.
While it is possible the race rather fell apart in the closing stages it was a praiseworthy first attempt over fences by a horse who is certainly going the right way.
Credo is now qualified for the £35,000 Final of this mares’ series at Hereford on December 10th and that is where she will go next. It’s a bonus that she has already had the experience of racing at that track.
