CAPED CRUSADER . . . . .

CAPE VIDAL made the perfect start on his racecourse debut with an impressive victory from the front in the EV Towers Open National Hunt Flat Race at Ffos Las late on Saturday evening.

An athletic, robust type he has had his share of issues over the past seven months but he has always looked an exciting prospect and rewarded our patience with a highly pleasing success in the colours of the 20 strong Potwell Racing Syndicate III.

Given that Serious Charges is their other horse they have much to look forward to over the next couple of years.

Cape Vidal’s dam Midnight Minx won four races for us and he is very similar to her, entirely straightforward, doesn’t pull too hard or make life difficult for his trainer.

Earlier in the season he was very sick so we turned him out for a while before bringing him back into training. Then he showed signs of a wind issue once he started back in work.

The problem was diagnosed as a trapped epiglottis, and he has thrived since an operation to deal with that. As his breathing is fine now I was keen to get a run into him before we turned him away again.

Cape Vidal showed a good attitude at Ffos Llas despite signs of inexperience, accelerated away in the closing stages and was eased by Rex Dingle as he coasted home by seven lengths.

He has a decent engine, with lots of improvement to come and will have a holiday now. When he returns into training I am thinking of keeping him for the Listed bumper at Cheltenham in November.

Just for the record he is a gelding, not an entire.

  1. You could tell he was a gelding because when the filly went wide on the paddock bend he didn’t follow her. Good lad …..
