LILITH . . . . . . THE FIRST ONE . . . . . . .

LILITH gained an overdue first success over fences at Newbury on Friday at the eighth attempt in the colours of the very patient Decimus VI syndicate.

While I was taking a bit of a chance turning her out so quickly after she finished third at Plumpton on Monday, she is as hard as nails and seemed very well in herself over the past few days.

Lilith has been so consistent over fences this season and fully deserved this first victory  in the Focus Mares’ Novice Handicap Chase over two and a half miles.

As she jumps, stays well and handles soft ground her jockey Rex Dingle was happy to set out to make all the running and though Fortunes Melody briefly threatened at the second last Lilith kept on stoutly to win by eight and a half lengths.

She was suited by the flat track and galloping nature of Newbury and seemed to accelerate further ahead after jumping the final fence.

I’ll give her an easy week now and then look for a suitable race for her in a month or so.
