Jordans Cross atoned for his luckless last fence fall at Cheltenham last month with the narrowest of victories in a valuable Class 3 novice handicap Chase at Doncaster on Saturday in the colours of the Steeple Chasers.
In gamely landing the first prize of £18,484, he took our winning tally for the season to just over £411,000.
For much of the race it looked as though Jordans Cross wasn’t quite on his A game but he and Rex Dingle kept persevering and began to close steadily on the leaders in the final half mile.
While his jumping was sound there was still work to do at the last fence before he finished strongly to snatch the verdict from Go West by a nose in the final stride.
It was deserved compensation for the unfortunate tumble of Jordan’s Cross at Cheltenham which put his jockey Ben Godfrey on the side-lines with a damaged collar bone and left another of our horses Kdeux Saint Fray to prevail.
Ben has been out of action ever since. It was hard for him to miss out on Saturday’s success but I’m pleased to say he has now been passed fit and will resume on one of ours at Plumpton on Monday.
Jordans Cross is progressing nicely although life is going to be a bit tougher for him after winning off a mark of 130 at Doncaster.
In time he should stay three miles but he will run next in a £40,000 novice handicap Chase at Cheltenham on trials day on January 24 along with Kdeux Saint Fray.
