FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BOLD . . . . . . . . .

FORTUNA LIGNA justified the long journey from Potwell to Scotland with a pleasing success in a £15,000 long distance handicap hurdle at Perth on Thursday in the colours of Owners For Owners.

While she has been running consistently through the winter it’s fair to say she has left it quite late to record her first victory of the season off a mark of 105.

She did much the same twelve months ago when successful at Chepstow on the penultimate day of the campaign.

In providing our 42nd winner of the season Fortuna Ligna took the total of prize money earned by our horses this season to over three quarters of a million pounds.

It was an important triumph, too, for her jockey Ben Godfrey, his first since riding out his claim.

Stamina is the forte of Fortuna Ligna who briefly looked held two from home before finding a second wind. Going to the final flight there were five horses in with a chance but she soon showed ahead on the flat and stretched clear by three and a quarter lengths at the line.

A decision about her future will be made by her owners in the next couple of weeks. She is a nicely bred quality mare who could stay in training or be retired to stud.

Sam Brown will bring down the curtain on by far our most successful season when he runs in the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown on Saturday.

Then we will be making our annual trip to the Punchestown Festival with four horses: World of Dreams, Kilbeg King, Credo and Blackjack Magic.
