EXETER DOUBLE & A NEW RECORD !!! . . . . .

A double at Exeter’s evening meeting on Friday took our total for the season to 37 winners!

That’s a new record score for the yard and a welcome achievement after the frustration earlier in the day of taking four horses to Fontwell before withdrawing them with the ground a fair bit quicker than had been advertised.

Plenty of other trainers took out their runners too and luckily I was home from Sussex in time to watch Racing TV as both our runners at Exeter won handsomely ridden well by Rex Dingle.

PURE THEATRE was the first to strike in the opening Mares’ Maiden Hurdle in the colours of Potwell Racing Syndicate IV.

A sister to six winners, she had been so disappointing for us in two runs in bumpers but has flourished since going over hurdles – suddenly we had a racehorse on our hands.

Pure Theatre built on her promising debut over hurdles at Chepstow with a fluent success at Exeter despite the trip of two miles being sharp enough for her.

She is from a nice family, looked very willing and hopefully has a decent future.

An hour later GABRIEL’S GETAWAY impressed with the way he won the two mile, three furlong Handicap Chase without being seriously pressed, off a mark of 109.

He is quite laid back, travelled comfortably just off the pace, then picked up instantly when Rex asked him to move up and challenge.

I’m so pleased with the progress made over fences by Gabriel’s Getaway who is a sound jumper and surely has more to offer.

He is more about speed than stamina and deserves a shot at a valuable handicap sooner rather than later.
