BAILLY’S COMET SHOOTS TO STARDOM AT WINCANTON . . . . . . .

We have some really nice bumper horses this season and two of them fought out a tight  finish on their debuts at Wincanton on Thursday with victory going to Bailly’s Comet by a neck from Champ Kabai.

The winner is a lovely prospect who did well to hold his position through the race because he was on and off the bridle before staying on strongly to lead close home.

We bought him at the Goffs Spring Store sale at Doncaster in May. He is superbly bred from a great family, will improve loads for the experience and should give his four owners a lot of fun.

Champ Kabai, another Goffs graduate, ran a race full of promise, led half a mile from home, has a lovely attitude and was only caught in the final strides.

The main target for Bailly’s Comet and Champ Kabai all season is the £100,000 Goffs UK sales bumper at Newbury in March. They will probably be on our mechanical horse walker for the next ten days and there is no rush to decide if they run again or go straight to Newbury.

Our third runner in the bumper Crest of Arms has been working with them but messed things up by running very green, pulling hard and hanging badly, something he hadn’t done at home or in a racecourse gallop.

He undoubtedly has talent and did well to stay on into seventh place. I’m confident we can sort him out in the weeks ahead and he needs to run again if he is to join his stable companions in the Goffs sales bumper.
